John Daly: Busted!

Author: Jeremy  |  Category: Uncategorized

Golfer John Daly was arrested and put in a cell for being publicly intoxicated outside a local Hooters restaurant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  The police said that he was being very uncooperative and downright mean at the time of his arrest.  He was forced to leave the restaurant, which he refused, and then lost consciousness when he did leave.  As he was being worked on, he refused to be taken to the hospital for treatment.  They put him in a cell to sober up for a 24 hour period.  What will this do to his image?  It’s not clear, but probably nothing good.  His image isn’t all that rosy to begin with.  In addition, people don’t usually like it when public figures do dopey things like get really drunk in public.  But it happens and many of them get past it just fine. The important thing, of course, is that he’s ok in the end.

Victory!

The US Ryder Cup team wasn’t supposed to win this year.  They were supposed to get taken down by a much more experienced and practiced team from Europe.  But they were able to take their game up a level and they won this year.  They had not won the competition since 1999.  And this year’s margin of victory, 5 points, was the largest since the 1980s.  The players, many of them rookies, were heard to say how excited they were and how big a deal they believe it to be!  They were very excited and hope to continue winning it next year and beyond.  The team has gotten closer and works very well together now; they are really a team, rather than just a bunch of individual players coming together. Congratulations Ryder Cup team!

Ty Tryon tries for a comeback

Author: Jeremy  |  Category: Uncategorized

7 years ago, a young golfer by the name of Ty Tryon burst onto the national golf stage, becoming the youngest player since 1957 to make the PGA Tour. To do that, of course, he needed to get through the PGA Tour Qualifying rounds, including the rough 6-day 90 hole Finals.  He and only 6 other people qualified that year, and he was on his way to being a full fledged pro-golfer.  On the PGA Tour, however, he had trouble with his health and has had trouble finding his stride again.  Yesterday, in the first stage of this year’s Qualifying Tour, the 24-year-old shot a 3rd-round 87, putting him well out of contention for the moment.  Afterwards, when asked for comment, he replied “Everything to be said is up on the scoreboard.”  He has tough road ahead, because he has to make up for his play yesterday; more importantly, he has to get through the mental block that comes from having started so badly.  He wants to “make the complicated simple again.”  Isn’t that the real beauty of golf?  It’s all so complicated but still very simple.

For the 4th time this year a rookie has walked away with a win on the PGA tour this season. Marc Turnesa, after taking a co-lead in the first round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, never relented and finished out strong to hold off the challenging Matt Kuchar for the victory. Closing out with scores of 62, 64, 69, and 68, Turnesa showed the consistency and patience of a well-season veteran on the links. Get a full report of the event by clicking here.

After each shooting a 10-under par, 62-stroke round yesterday at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, Zach Johnson and Marc Turnesa are currently co-leading the pack. Neither man bogeyed once during the entire day. Johnson, however, relates that his day on the course was “boring,” simply because he was hitting the ball so consitently. He missed only two fairways off his drives and routinely found the green in regulation. Though he is not complaining about this, he felt it was a very non chalant day of golfing.
